About Us

It all started with 2 friends who as students way back in 2001 wanted to bring in the much needed change in the local government schools by upgrading their educational infrastructure and teaching amenities to benefit the children. That marks the birth of Spandana. The two then decided to set up a library in one of the government schools as Spandana’s first activity with no external monetary support. They collected books from like-minded individuals and set up the library with 125 books of all genres.

A humble beginning in 2001 with one school has now grown to 5 government schools in South Bengaluru with various programs and a dozen core members contributing towards the noble cause. As off 2016, we have also taken on a new form - a registered NGO Trust. Registration No. CIT(E)BLR/80G/R- 155/AARTS4646M/ITO(e)-3/Vol 2016-17, and currently all donations made to Spandana are eligible for exemption under 80G of the income tax act.

Our Activities

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Spandana provides various scholarships to students to encourage and support them in their education. Scholarships are given to students who excel in academics, sports and cultural activities. To date, over 600 scholarships have been given.

STATIONERY DISTRIBUTION

Spandana over the years has religiously assisted its associated government schools to up bring the facilities and standard of education. Spandana identifies the needs of the children and provides adequate stationery materials to all the children at different classes. To date, over 2000 stationery kits have been distributed.

COMPUTER DISTRIBUTION

Knowledge and exposure on computers has become the need of the hour for all sections of society and especially with children. Spandana collects used computers from institutions and individuals, services them and installs it at government schools to enable the children to get exposed to computers at a very early stage.

In addition, members of Spandana also train the teachers of these schools with basic and advanced computing to equip them to impart computer education to the children of their respective schools.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR PROFESSIONAL COURSE

Spandana has expanded its services to the needy and worthy young students stepping into undergraduate education. Spandana provides scholarships to meritorious students throughout their undergraduate education while also educating the students of the importance of giving back to the society. Therefore, we tell the students to treat the scholarships as interest free education loans and give it back to the society after their graduation. It gives us great pride in sharing that few of these individuals are now successful professionals in the field of work and life.
